Area Small Streams
Current Conditions: Good Last updated: 08.21.07 - 10:21 am
Many of the area small streams have seen heavy localized thunderstorms causing them to get muddy for a period of time, but most clear quickly. Even though we may lose a day or two to off color water, the recharging of the stream from the rain is ultimately a plus. Wait for the water to clear in a day or two and get back at it!..

Brazos River (Private)
Current Conditions: Excellent Last updated: 08.21.07 - 10:17 am
The Brazos has had some major restoration work done by the land owners and the fishing is outstanding!!! measuring multiple fish of 22-24 inches caught on dry flies and still with an impressive population of brook trout in the 12-14 range. Size and numbers both along with the scenery and solitude of private water.... rates have increased to $125 per rod with a guide and dates are limited this year, but so far it has totally been worth it! Recent rains should keep the flow and temeratures good through the month...

Rio Costilla / Valle Vidal
Current Conditions: Excellent Current Flow: 1.6 cfs [Reported at 5:00 pm] Last updated: 08.21.07 - 10:29 am
Flows are at 73cfs-- a good slightly high level-- and crowds thinning out... as long as the levels stay up the Costilla should fish well. Hoppers and small stimis still working as well as some great mayfly action-- especially if it gets cloudy...

Continued thunderstorms-- some very heavy-- have the Rio above average in flow and off color. Not good fishing now, but should be shaping up for a great fall with lots of water!..
